Love, loss, and a bit of mystery surround this intensely personal concert. We begin with Ravel’s gentle and graceful elegy, steeped more in memory than in combat. An elegant young piano soloist will join our orchestra for Schumann’s tender Piano Concerto, sometimes expansive, sometimes rhapsodic, sometimes dramatic, and always strikingly original. Crowned by the eloquent Nimrod Variation, Elgar’s Enigma Variations presents a portrait of the composers friends wrapped in a tantalizing mystery that will keep you guessing long after the music has ended.
