Baby’s First Symphony

(October 29, 2007 Lima, Ohio) Who says classical music is only for adults? On Saturday November 10th the Lima Symphony Orchestra will present the first Baby’s First Symphony concert, at Lima Memorial Health System. Lighthouse Strings, an ensemble of musicians from the Lima Symphony Orchestra will perform both exciting and soothing music that is sure to make your imagination dance, such as:

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Arrival of the Queen of Sheba from 'Solomon', Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring and Sheep May Safely Graze.

The first concert begins at 10:00am in the Auxiliary Conference Center. Because of popular demand a second concert has been added to the day, beginning at 11:30am. And the best part - these concerts are FREE!

You may be familiar with classical composers, such as Bach, Beethoven and Mozart. Studies show a relationship between listening to classical music and the development of cognitive skills. Babies as young as 3 months can pick out complex musical structure and even recognize classical music selections they have heard before. Researchers think the complexity of classical music is what primes the brain to solve spatial problems more quickly. Other studies have shown classical music to affect health in a positive way by increasing endorphin levels, boosting the immune system, strengthening memory, regulating stress-related hormones and improving coordination. Baby’s First Symphony is a 30 minute multi-media concert designed to give children, from birth to age five, a gentle introduction to classical music.

Light refreshments will be provided by Lima Memorial Healthy System and gift bags will be handed out by KinderMusic.
