Simply Strings – Simply Wonderful
October 29, 2007
Lima, Ohio
In the first concert of its kind on the Crouse Performance Hall stage, the Lima Symphony Orchestra presents their first all strings concert entitled Simply Strings. Patrice Jackson, a media proclaimed musical prodigy, will join the Lima Symphony Orchestra on November 3 at 8:00pm to bring the audience an entirely new sound. The all strings orchestra will come to life with this young cellist’s performance of Franz Joseph Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C. The Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major was written by a man who was never a virtuoso on any instrument. Written between 1762 and 1765 the piece was rediscovered in 1962 and since has been a favorite of many cellists. Its principal melodies are elegant, gentle, and lively with an overall character of optimistic charm.
Also performing at this concert is the Lima Symphony Chorus under the direction of Dennis Kratzer. The chorus will join forces with the symphony to perform George Frederic Handel’s beautiful Coronation Anthems 1 and 2. Other pieces being performed at this all strings concert include Simply Strings by Benjamin Britten and Serenade for Strings, Op. 22 by Antonin Dvorak.
