The passion and pathos of George Walker's Lyric for Strings sets the stage for an evening of contemplation and celebration of Black History Month. Renowned soprano soloist Laquita Mitchell brings Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 for voice and orchestra to life. Songs from the acclaimed composer Florence Price delight in their elegant settings of traditional American sounds and William Grant Still's masterpiece Afro-American Symphony explores the fusion of the blues with classical music.
