PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

First place winners, upon recommendation of the Music Director, may appear as a featured soloist with the Lima Symphony Orchestra at a future date. 

ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS

The Senior Division is open to any student enrolled in a college or conservatory in a degree program. Maximum age 26 years on the date of contest. Senior Strings will play one movement (or multiple movements) from any major concerto or concert piece for soloist and orchestra. Senior Voice contestants must be prepared to sing a selection or selections published for soloist and orchestra totaling at least eight minutes. Maximum performance time is 15 minutes.  

 

The Junior Division is open to students 17 to 21 years on the date of contest. Younger students may be eligible based on the recommendation of their instructor and approval of the Young Artists' Committee Chairs. Junior String participants will play one movement from a concerto or a concert piece for soloists and orchestra, a minimum of five minutes in length. It must be the technical level of a Mozart Violin or Boccherini Cello Concert. Junior Voice participants must be prepared to sing a selection or selections published for soloist and orchestra.

All contestants must perform music from MEMORY and must provide two copies of their music, including all cadenzas, for the judges. Maximum performance time is 15 minutes. 

REGULATIONS

Your completed application form with a non-refundable registration fee of $40.00 may be submitted online here, USPS entries must be post marked no later than March 15th, 2024. Late registration fee is $25.00. Applications will be submitted in the order received until the competition is filled. For check payments make checks payable to the Friends of the Symphony. Contestants are responsible for their own expenses and must be prepared to remain for the evening concert on April 27th should they be selected as a finalist. Two contestants in each division will be selected to perform in the Finalist Concert. This performance will determine the First Place Winners. Please notify your accompanist of this requirement.
