SYMPHONY STORYTIME

Serving hundreds of children each year in seven counties, Symphony Storytime is a fun and lively program that pairs beloved children’s books such as Jabari Jumps and The Pout Pout Fish with classic masterworks performed live by Lima Symphony musicians. These programs allow children to experience music through highly interactive performances, introducing them to basic musical ideas and concepts. With a focus on creative movement and musical literacy, Symphony Storytime is designed to spark your child’s imagination and to foster a lifelong love and appreciation for music and literature. These programs are free and open to the public, made possible by our generous sponsors.

Symphony Storytime: Up and Down

The Lima Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present a digital Symphony Storytime featuring "Up and Down" by New York Times best-selling author Oliver Jeffers. "Up and Down" is a touching story of friendship, adventure, and learning how to ask for help. Originally from Northern Ireland, Jeffers has written and illustrated over a dozen books and has been the recipient of many children’s book awards. Paired with exciting music performed by the Lima Symphony Orchestra string quartet the story comes alive. Listeners are introduced to string pizzicato technique and asked to listen for this technique throughout the performance. As with in-person story times, this program serves to introduce children to classic and beloved children’s literature, bringing the books to life with specially selected classical music. Musical selections include "String Quartet in F Major, Mvt. 2" by Maurice Ravel and "Pizzicato Polka" by Johann II and Joseph Strauss. Read by Renee Keller and accompanied by Michael Houff (violin 1), Matthew Latawiec (violin 2), Carmen Granger (viola), and Shelbi Wagner (cello). This program is part of the Lima Symphony Orchestra's educational commitment and is generously sponsored by: G.A. Winzter & Son Co., Statebank, Thermal Gard, Cooper Family Foundation, Van Wert County Foundation, AC Dienstberger Foundation, The Ohio State University at Lima, and season sponsor the Ohio Arts Council.
